Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Hey everyone! My name is Clancy and this is my second year here at Embry Riddle in Prescott, AZ. I have been working in Admissions as a student assistant counselor for 2 years as well. I work mostly with Bryan Dougherty who is the counselor for WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, UT, and AK. I help the counselors out with answering any questions that prospective students may have. So if you need any advice from a current student I'm here for you!

ehh, i just thought of something else. i understand embry riddle provides transportation to and from the flight line every... what was it half an hour? hour?. anyways, i was wondering if the city of prescott had a public bus system or something. i mean, i know there are privately run "buses" that make runs between the cities of prescott and phoenix and stuff, but is there like a bus route or something students use regularly to get around town? thanks again for any help.

Nope, no bus system around Prescott, and it is semi-inconvenient. Last year the school provided a free shuttle between Campus, Fry's, and Walmart on (I believe) Wednesdays.... I'm not sure if they are going to do that again next year... I have to say, having a car here is EXTREMLEY convenient, not only for getting to/from the flight line (yes their is a shuttle to the flight line every 30 mins), but just for the ability to get off campus when you want to. If you can find a cheap car or motorcycle to get around with, I HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of that... You can survive without it, but your will be happier if you have some form of transportation.

I agree, having some sort of vehicle helps A LOT! However, there are ways to get around it like mooching off your roommates (did this all year Freshman year :)

Hi I've got a few questions.

I'm starting school at ERAU this fall, majoring in aerospace engineering and I want to do flight as well but I'm a little confused about the program.

First, are the flight courses scheduled for certain times like every other course like physics or calc and do I have to have them on my schedule in order to take them or are they self paced and doable whenever?

Next, if they are self paced are they a pay as you go deal and if not self paced how do I pay for them?

Also, do I need to bring my own printer for printing papers or does the school have printers for student use? (I ask because my local university has a free "printer lab" for that purpose)

Thanks a ton to whoever can answer these for me.

Taylor,

There are actually two ways you can go about doing flight with Aerospace Engineering. First, you can just take the minor in flight, which is basically just the flight lessons and ground schools. Or you can do a double major where you take the flight, ground schools, and all of the Aeronautical Science (Pilot) classes like Aerodynamics, Aircraft Performance, Safety, Weather, etc.

As for the flight activities, each student has to take a 6 hour flight block in which you are not allowed to schedule any other classes. This doesn't mean that each activity will take 6 hours, its just a time where your instructor can schedule you for one or more activities. It is pay as you go via the internet. So you can use a credit card (good idea if you have a credit card with a mileage program) or you can use your student account to pay. Each flight course has a syllabus with every activity you need to complete in order to get your ratings. This means its up to you to pace your training. If you can give your instructor more hours of availability, you can fly more and get done faster.

Hope that answers your questions!

Thanks for that last answer, I've got another question for you guys.

The minoring in flight sounds better for my upcoming workload so how to I "sign up" so to speak?

You can actually take care of that when you get here. There's really no need to do it during the summer. I think the only way to do it is to call records (800) 888-3728 ext 3808 and talk to them...

Yet another question, what's the quick and dirty on the seven day meal plan?

Reply to This

Well, as a Freshman, you actually have two choices... (just a note - all freshmen are required to have one of the following meal plans their first year on campus)

First, you can do the 7-day meal plan which basically means 7 days a week, whenever you want, as much as you want. Plus it also gives you an additional $100 of "flexi" money that you can use at the various cafes to buy food. Second, there is a 5-Day meal plan in which the same thing happens except there are two less days.... But instead of $100 flexi, they give you $200.... So its up to you.. They both cost the same... (I'd go for the 7-day)

Ok yet another, what's the most popular activity or hangout for most students? I know thats kinda broad but that's the best I can do.

I keep coming up with more questions, thanks so much for all your answers.
