I just applied to GSIS in Prescott. However, I live in Daytona Beach and I would like to know if I can take the basic courses in the Daytona Beach campus and then move to Prescott for my 3rd and 4th year.
Thanks for visiting our social network and I'd be glad to answer your question. If you can stick to the basic classes like speech and what not, you will have no problem starting your GSIS classes when you move to Prescott. Daytona does have a degree program called Homeland Security but I've heard that barely ANY of those classes will transfer into the GSIS degree program.
Embry-Riddle sudents are able to switch campuses if they choose to, but it is typically done in a major offered by both campuses. While you would have the option of starting in DB, you wouldn't be able to enroll at the Daytona Beach Campus in an undeclared/undecided major, so would need to pick one of the majors offered on that campus and then custom-select classes that will apply to the GSIS program here. Both campuses offer a 1-year "Still Exploring" option for each of the colleges, which would probably be the best option, but by the second year you would need to declare a specific major. Still Exploring in College of Arts & Sciences would be the best eventual match to GSIS in Prescott.
Typically, the "General Education" or basic courses for Embry-Riddle majors do not amount to two full years of classes like they might in state university programs. With GSIS there are more classes which might be available for transfer from DB or another college, but which represent a portion of the academic core of the degree program. Too many of these classes transferred in may dilute a student's preparation for future classes in the major. Certainly there are some classes categorized for GSIS as "gen ed," such as English Composition, Speech, mathematics and lab science which are transferable, but this comprises only 39 credits of the total 120 for the degree, so it may be best to plan on only two or three semesters before transferring rather than two full years.
Let us know as early as possible if you want to go with this transfer plan as both campuses have started registering students for classes by now and we would need to move your application to DB for official acceptance. If possible, it may be worth taking a trip out to Prescott to see the campus and the environment here. During the visit you could also speak with the professors and other students to get their impression of your proposal.
