Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Hi,
I am currently a senior in high school and was wondering how I can apply for the ERAU scholarships. Ive been looking for an application but I cant find any, is there a specific website to go to? Are there any scholarships that Embry Riddle looks at specifically? Thank you for your time

Embry-Riddle doesn't have separate applications for our standard merit scholarships; we use your admissions application and records to determine qualification and the scholarships are awarded automatically. There are some opportunity scholarships and grants that we will make students aware of as they become available during the year.

For external scholarships, Embry-Riddle will accept awards into the student account from just about any source and will assist the student when needed or possible to verify planned attendance or provide cost information for need-based qualification. Here is some information from an older post of mine regarding external scholarships:

Regarding the aerospace-specific scholarships, I usually recommend students start their search with companies for whom they would like to work as professionals in the future. See if your choice of employers can help with the cost of your education.

Also, you can look into professional organizations based on your career interests:

Engineering in general - Society of Women Engineers (SWE, www.swe.org)
Aerospace Engineering - American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics (AIAA, www.aiaa.org)
Electrical Engineering - Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE, www.ieee.org)
Mechanical Engineering - American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME, www.asme.org)

automotive design - Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE, www.sae.org)

Aviation - Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA, www.aopa.org),
- Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA, www.eaa.org) (also good for engineers)
- Women in Aviation, International (WAI, www.wai.org)

Helicopters - Helicopter Association International (HAI, www.rotor.com)

Business - National Business Aviation Association (NBAA, www.nbaa.org)

Meteorology - American Meteorological Society (AMS, www.ametsoc.org)

There are many others; just have a look around the web. Put in your career choice, followed by "organization" to see if one is available.

We highly encourage students to explore external scholarships as much as possible, especially if they are considering the flight training at Embry-Riddle since the cost of flight is charged on top of the standard cost of attendance. www.fastweb.com and www.collegeboard.org can help you search for more general scholarships which are also worth exploring.

I hope that helps.

Rob

Thalia,

Our scholarship process is actually very easy. In fact, it's so easy that you don't have to do anything except get accepted (that means turning in an admissions application, school transcripts, letters of recommendation and SAT/ACT test scores)

Once you're accepted, we automatically review you based on EVERYTHING you send us during the admissions process. This means that you are allowed to send in more than just whats required. This would be stuff like a resume (probably the BEST optional piece you can send in) copies of major school awards, extra recommendation letters, etc.

I'm not sure if you are planning on coming in to Riddle this Fall as it may be too late to get any scholarships. We try to give out as many as possible and are almost completely depleted by the beginning of summer. If you are applying for Fall of 2010 then there is PLENTY of money available and the scholarships are based ob GPA, Test scores, recommendation letters, extracurricular activities, leadership experience and well that's pretty much everything.

If you are looking for more places to find scholarships, I would highly recommend looking at fastweb.com. Tons of scholarship opportunities there.
