Andrew

I want to go to Embry-riddle to major in Aeronautical Engineering...

Hello,

I really want to go to embry-riddle for college. I have a 2.2 GPA but I recently been diagnosed with ADD and been treated for it. Now I have a 3.1 GPA and planning to get around a 3.4 GPA on my next report card. After college I want to try to get a pilot training slot in the Airforce. What are my chances of getting in?

Hi Andrew,

You really have two roads to go down for what your wanting to do. The first road, if you go to school first, then try to get into the Air Force, your going to be in a world of debt. The other road, you can join as enlisted, and the Air Force will pay for your college(except books) up to a 4 year degree. You then can transfer to Officer Training School and become a pilot. If your really in the Air Force, this might be a better road to for you to go down. On the flip side, you may want to ask a recruiter about being on medication for ADD. Im not sure if they will let you in being on Medication.

I am currently enrolled at Embry Riddle and have been in the Air Force since December 2006. Good luck to you and I hope this helps.

I know I can't be on the medication... You have to be off the medication one year before joining the reserves so I just recently stopped the medication.. I am trying harder in school now... Do you think I can get into Embry-Riddle?

You should definitely contact our Air Force ROTC Detachment 028. You can reach them by calling 800-888-3728 and asking for their office. You can also call the same number to reach any of our admissions counselors who can talk to you about your options.

The thing is I am in Boston... And I've already talked to a recruiting officier about my options. He said I should just the reserves and go to college, majoring in aeronautical engineering. I will call th admission's office anyways but what kind of GPA do you need to get into Embry-Riddle? Thanks for the help so far guys!

Andrew,

Do you have a source of income that will pay for your school and to live on. The Reserves won't pay to much since your working one weekend a month. Anyways, I can't tell you what your GPA should be to get in, since GPA does not matter for us to start school. Do what is best for you, and try to apply for scholarships if you can.

Andrew and Airman Parker -

I am with the Admissions office at Embry-Riddle, and want to clear up a few things for both of you.

Embry-Riddle works with all federal financial aid programs, and we offer both merit and need based scholarships and grants to our students here at the Prescott campus.
ROTC can be another way to add additional scholarship money, if you qualify through the national scholarship application; you can also compete for in college scholarships after arriving on campus if you do not receive a scholarship from ROTC prior to arrival. Our AFROTC detachment typically has one of the highest selection rates nationwide for pilot slots of any AFROTC detachment - last year our selection rate was over 70% for students vying for a pilot slot.

We review every student on an individual basis, taking into account GPA, ACT or SAT, difficulty level of classes, and letters of recommendation. There are no minimum requirements for acceptance - everyone has a chance.

Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns. My direct line is 928-777-3857, or you can reach our front desk toll-free at 800-888-3728. I am also available via email at jill.duppler@erau.edu. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Jill,

Like I said, I never went through as a civilian so I could not tell you any information about the admissions. Good luck Andrew with the process.
